Three years ago, Canada’s women’s pro cycling team began taking sports analytics seriously. Embarking on a project to optimize rider performance, they collected and correlated rider data, physiological data, and the characteristics of upcoming races. They then added a data visualization layer, superimposing each athlete’s personal data, thus enriching the overall data set. This enabled the team to discover unknown pieces of the racing puzzle and provided a powerful tool to the team management, coaches, and the athletes themselves.

This presentation will share how the team adopted this data-driven culture, the lessons they learned during implementation, and the new level of readiness they hope will allow them to assume their place on the podium at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
