Reliable operation of an electrical network, while mitigating risk and managing around natural events, takes large amounts of high-density text, numeric, and graphical data from multiple disparate, disconnected data sources. To improve operational efficiency and situational awareness for its transmission system, APS developed the Geospatial Visualization System (GVS). Combining real-time data with state estimation, contingency analysis, and GIS asset data, GVS provides visual alerts to emergency conditions, expiring windows of issue resolution, and spatial relationships between operating assets and external events such as fires. With GVS, APS Operations has at-a-glance knowledge of the current state of its transmission system and developing risk trends.
