Our increasingly digital and real-time enterprises need modern—often cloud-based or hybrid—data architectures that support both rapid innovation and efficient operation across the business.
The cloud has made it much easier and faster to make data available online, but now many executives are struggling with a new phenomenon that some customers describe as “cost explosions.” Whereas on-premises data warehouses often fail when they have insufficient hardware, cloud data warehouses are now failing when their sponsors suddenly face large and unpredictable monthly bills.
There is a way to realize the full promise and agility of cloud-based data warehousing while successfully dealing with costs—with a systematic approach to the underlying issues of business value, platform architecture, and analytics requirements. It also helps to introduce a collaborative approach to financial planning and management, now often called FinOps.
In this presentation, Richard Winter will discuss these challenges, outline the strategies needed to deal with them, and provide examples based on the experience of the speakers, well-known experts in the strategy, architecture, economics, and selection of the data warehouse platform.
