The idea that data is critical to running our companies is nothing new. Much of our technology investment has been focused on delivering data to support programmers building applications and reports that provide analysis to users. We never envisioned data evolving from the secret sauce that drives analytics tools to becoming an office supply for every business worker. Though data self-service is a top-of-mind discussion topic, our data infrastructure isn’t ready to deliver data that’s ready for business use by the average staff member.
Our methods for managing data need to expand to support data outside the company’s four walls. Business decisions require data beyond the traditional application environment: syndicated data, cloud applications, media feeds, third-party data providers, and partner systems. We need to be able to add and manage new data content more quickly and efficiently. In this session, Evan Levy will discuss the challenges in deploying data self-service and will review various approaches that companies are using to address the self-service data objective.
