For many years, companies were able to acquire, collect, and use customer and other personal information without concern for rules, laws, and liabilities. That’s no longer the case. Access to detailed data has become a necessity for business decision making. Data protection has become a responsibility for companies and their data users.

Consumer data protection varies across different countries and even different industries. However, the European Union’s 2015 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) dramatically affected the responsibilities for consumer data possession and usage. Data protection no longer rests solely in the hands of systems administrators; business users must understand their responsibilities regarding data privacy and protection.

Most people think little about their company’s ability to retain consumer interaction history, support cross-sell and up-sell, and monetize their data—such activities will be affected by data protection and privacy changes in the future.

During this session, Evan Levy will discuss the concept of privacy, the options for data protection, and the details of GDPR.

This is part of an optional Data Governance Bootcamp. Learn more about the courses offered, or attend this individual course.
