Consumer data protection varies across different countries and even different industries. However, the European Union’s 2015 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) dramatically affected the responsibilities for consumer data possession and usage. Data protection no longer rests solely in the hands of systems administrators; business users must understand their responsibilities regarding data privacy and protection.
Most people think little about their company’s ability to retain consumer interaction history, support cross-sell and up-sell, and monetize their data– such activities will be affected by data protection and privacy changes in the future.
