database vendors such as IBM, Oracle, and SAP seem to think so.
Other players (including Actian and Teradata) aren't quite as
convinced, and at least one prominent industry expert says the idea
is blind to the mistakes -- and lessons -- of the not-so-distant
past.

learning specialist Alpine Data Labs's Chorus software enables data
scientists to work better with one another and helps business
analysts and power users collaborate. This was a good growth
strategy but meant Alpine was neglecting other business users.
Chorus 5.0 release should change that.
