Oracle and Big Data
Big Data for the Enterprise

Big Data for the Enterprise

For decades, companies have been making business decisions based on transactional data stored in relational databases. Beyond that critical data, however, is a potential treasure trove of non-traditional, less structured data such as weblogs, social media, email, sensors, and photographs that can be mined for useful information.

To derive real business value from big data, you need the right tools to capture and organize a wide variety of data types from different sources, and to easily analyze it within the context of all your other enterprise data.

Oracle Big Data Platform

Oracle offers the broadest and most integrated portfolio of products to help you acquire and organize diverse data types and analyze them alongside your existing data to find new insights and capitalize on hidden relationships. They are engineered to work together and easily integrate into your existing infrastructure.

Oracle Big Data Appliance
In an article in the Open Source Blog Wikibon, writer Jeff Kelly observes:
The appliance’s “plug and play” approach will … appeal to Oracle customers that want to leverage Big Data but not spend months configuring a complex Hadoop deployment on their own, or who don’t have the Hadoop know-how to do so even if they wanted to.
Brian Proffitt from itworld wrote:
Oracle has announced a new big data appliance that will not only merge the non-relational data storage power of Apache Hadoop with Oracle's relational database and Oracle's … hardware …: it will do it at a price point that may even beat commodity-server Hadoop deployments.
Cowen analyst Peter Goldmacher who said:
We believe Oracle’s Big Data Appliance is equivalent to roughly 100 commodity boxes.
